I think the whole SHOW, starting from episode one, was Limbo.
I don't think this is the case at all.
Christian explained in the sideways world church that their time on the island was the most important part of their lives, which is why they wanted to "move on" together. That wouldn't make sense if they never actually spent any time on the island.
He also discussed how there wasn't any meaning to time in sideways world, because it's where they all went when they died, even if some of them died decades after others. Which wouldn't make sense if they all died at the same time in the plane crash.
And the main world timeline ended with Sawyer, Kate, Claire, Lapidus, Miles, and Richard flying away from the island, rather than them fading out or merging with the sideways world. (And I don't think we even saw Lapidus and Richard in the sideways world. Probably because Richard went to heaven with his wife and Lapidus only spent a few days on the island.)
I think the implication is that these six lived out the rest of their lives on the mainland. As did Desmond who Hurley will help leave the island. And Hurley will live for centuries.
