Those of you waiting for the end to see if the series was worth watching can go ahead and watch it. (Although feel free to skip all the sideways-world stuff in Season 6.)
I'd say if you find yourself deeply invested in the characters and consider the island and its mysteries merely an unusually entertaining framework for learning about the characters, then go ahead and watch the whole thing. Otherwise, yeah, skip the flash-sideways.
I don't think the sideways world was "pre-heaven." I think the whole SHOW, starting from episode one, was Limbo. I am able to let go of many of the lose ends, when I just think of certain characters as having moved on sooner than the main group. (But not all of them.)
I'm with you though. Torn.
It's how I WANTED it to end,.... but I would have liked a few more mind-blowing answers. Instead it was like "yup, you were right about where we were going in the first season, we just had a few extra seasons to kill, so we mucked it up with some nonsense to confuse you."
The line about time not having meaning in the Sideways world was key. All those people died at some point, and all met together in the Sideways-Time world
