Well...
Firstly...Boar's Head was WONDERFUL!!!! The trip there and back was long...11 hours or so, each way and of course 1 hour seems like an eternity when you are riding in the backseat with your bored 12 year old son! LOL! MUST GET MY OWN CAR!!!! But anyways, back to the event....it was really great to see Soly, Paul and Ben, as well as all the other friends I haven't seen in ages...(Fighter School last March to be exact), I got to fight!!! I noticed the difference in my physical condition in a few ways, I found I wasn't huffing and puffing anywhere near as much as I used to! Yay cardio!!, I discovered that my elbow armor really sucks! It pinches (and gave me some fairly spectacular bruises) and doesn't fit me properly (that will be changed before ToC!), my shield doesn't really seem to do what it is supposed to....or is it that my arm still isn't strong enough? Probably a combination of both. What I found most interesting was that despite a fairly heavy (for me) upper body weight training program, I hurt like hell the next day which leads me to believe that the only way to train these specific muscles is to actually pick up my stick and fight someone, or hit my very soon to be built pell....as well as the regular weight training and Combat Conditioning. I had about 6 fights, all of them good and fun, I got some useful feedback on what I could do better and what I was doing well, so all in all this was a very positive experience!!!
As far as court went...I couldn't see or hear a thing :o( I usually sit near the front so as to not miss a thing, but unfortunately I was unable to this time...so I can't say too much about this.
I bought some stuff at the merchants, for Paul, and Baroness Christiana and Don and Barb...and a few things for me! :o)
I went with Soly to a FANTASTIC restaurant called Mocha, where I had Caesar salad, that was a study in contrasts...the cool crisp lettuce, the salty rich cheese shavings, the flavorful, but not overpowering dressing and the suprisingly sweet cornbread croutons (how's that for "frou frou chefy talk Soly?), I also had the panini called "The Mistress" (cool name eh?)It had proscuitto, honey dew melon and cantaloupe, port salut cheese, and some white truffle oil...it was served on matzo(sp?) bread I believe....so damn amazing!
For dessert, I had the apple "pie-nini" which had chocolate hazelnut spread in it in addition to the regular apple pie filling..it was served with a vanilla gelato drizzled in chocolate....mmmm! I also had some wonderful herbal tea...lemongrass was one component...I forget what else...but it was very mild and refreshing! Thank you Soly for taking me there, and to both you and Paul for giving us a place to stay while we were there! I am sorry we didn't get to see the new house.....:o(
Well, back to mundane life and work....more musings later!
Bou :o)
