I am interested to hear the community's various viewpoints on this. Personally, I'd like the PC brigade to step off. What are your opinions on this,

I don't know what PC means anymore. I remember when it used to mean something good. It meant that you tried to keep your own behavior and speech (not other people's) in line with your social ideals.

But I take it some people thought the fist bump was disrespectful or undignified, and yeah, they might feel better if they stepped off it.

My impression of HHDL is that he accepts whatever's offered to him in good faith: a handshake, prostrations and a kata, even a hug from a cancer patient.

It did once mean something good. However, people have taken PC, political correctness, and run with it. It seems to have become an excuse for taking offense. Especially here and now--had they done any remote amount of research, they would have come across "If you see the Buddha on the road, kill him". Which is why I think getting offended on HHDL's behalf over an innocuous greeting is offensive to Buddhism. If HH wasn't offended, then he simply wasn't, and no one else has the right to be such for him.

Do not put words in my mouth, and watch your tone.

Yeah, whenever someone uses the word 'pc' and doesn't mean a computer I can't help think along the lines you have and I can't think of an occasion where it hasn't been appropriate.

I'm old enough to verify this claim. PCness originated in the lefties trying to get us to be nice to other races and genders by not using common slurs.
