Ghosts

I loved you,
carried the torch for seven years
and saw your ghost in the face of every woman
I touched

You haunted me and my relationships
you were almost a curse
All my planets moved in your gravitational pull
and nothing
and no one
could compare.

I still remember that dance
you know - the one at the Moon,
where I held you loosely in my arms
even though you were no longer mine
Emily's voice was an echo of lost love
and we were just a case in point.

Now, you make me smile every day
and I am glad we are friends
and the companionship though far away
consists of laughter and endless pokes on Facebook

Today when we are close,
Even though it's only once per year
I fumble in the dark to find your ghost
But she is only smoke

Though we were a brief supernova
in a sky full of red giants
I hardly ever pause to think of 'when'

when I loved you,
when I carried the torch for seven years
and saw your ghost in the face of every woman
I touched.
