The trip to Russia was one disaster after another. I was supposed to fly from Heathrow to Frankfurt, meet Craig our sales manager and then get the connection to Moscow.
My Heathrow to Frankfurt plane was two hours late so I missed my connection and had to stay in Frankfurt for the night. Meanwhile Craig ended up in Moscow, minus the Rubles as I had these.
Craig managed to get to the hotel by midnight with Euros. The hotel wouldn't let him check in 'Computer has to rest for 2 hours', so he didn't get checked in until 2.30am. He told them I was stuck but would want my room (already paid for) the following night.
Next day, the hotel won't call a taxi for Craig - apparently they won't call for a taxi before midday (?!).
I get up at 4.30am and begin my journey to Moscow.
Decided to meet Craig at the exhibition hall and then go on to the Bristish Embassy to see the business advisors.
Had to go in this dodgy old unmarked taxi which was a bit nervewracking. Then the taxi driver said I had to walk across this park to get to the exhibition hall and that he would escort me. A bit worrying to say the least but he was a true gent, carried my luggage and propped me up on the thick ice.
Meanwhile Craig was hideously lost. We eventually met up and then started our confusing tube trip across Moscow. The signs at the stations are not written in English script and it takes ages to match up the symbols.
We had to get a taxi to get across one road as the traffic was so chaotic. Made it to the embassy, had our meeting and then got to the hotel. By which time I was about to faint through tiredness / starvation. The hotel said they did not have a room for me 'Computer says no' so we had a 2 hour fight to get a room.
The room was off 'Holidays from Hell' it still had original 1970s decor but I was too tired to care.
The plane back was delayed, my connection delayed and I had to rebook my coach.
I would say the air pollution in Moscow is absolutely terrible from all the clapped out Ladas, my poor throat and lungs are still recovering. DON'T GO IF YOU CAN HELP IT!
