Coffee-fueled mornin' ramble

The local weather forecast is for thundershowers today and thunderstorms tomorrow. It certainly looks grey enough. Yay!

I did some sewing yesterday. I'm putting together a little dress for Maggie. Kind of a peach color, pretty simple lines, and I may embroider it a bit. Or applique, I'm not sure yet.

Been thinking about ren faires. There's one in Escondido in early April, the weekend after Jeremy's show closes. He's a little eh about going, because he feels he'll want/need a quiet weekend after the excitement of performing. I'd need to sew like a maniac to have outfits made for both Jeremy and Maggie. May be better to wait and go to the one in Balboa Park in early August.

Yesterday's American Idol was a pleasant experience. The two contestants that rubbed me wrong were both eliminated, so the top twelve are all people that I enjoy. I confess I'm stunned that the first "theme" is going to be Stevie Wonder songs. Seems like every time someone sang Stevie during the preliminary rounds, the judges' reactions were basically "gosh, that was rocky, you don't have the chops to sing Stevie!" Are they trying to set them all up to fail?

The new Girl Scout cookie, Cafe Cookies, rocks. Kind of caramel-y, nicely crispy. Mmmmm.

I did a little bit of work on the pantry yesterday. Trying to think of good ways to organize it.

We need more shopping bags. More shopping bags = fewer plastic bags. Ralph's doesn't even OFFER to use paper any more; you need to stop the bagger before s/he starts and ask for paper if you want it. But! if you have cloth bags, not only do you decrease the total number of disposable bags you get, but it also gives you time to make a pitch for paper for the overflow. I have some canvas in my fabric stash, so I may try my hand at sewing some bags. The challenge will be making them sturdy enough, of course.

ren faire, house stuff, american idol, sewing, girl scouts, losd
