Reservoir Dogs 4.5/5
This movie was a long time coming (as per me seeing it). Set as pulp fiction, the only downfall to an ADD like me is that it takes place in ONE ROOM for about 4/5 of the movie.
Meh. It's Tarantino.
Constantine 4.5/5
I hate to steal the words of Kevin (mrharrymason), but the simplest justice to this movie is "if dogma went gothic"
I tend to like most movies I see (its true). However, Constantine somehow especially gripped me. It's a portrayal of Hell vs. Heaven that simply...hasn't been done before (although it was somewhat suggested in the aforementioned dogma.) It takes the same course as Van Helsing, except with plot and acting.
I'm not going to be able to convince anyone who is already intent on not seeing to see it, so I'm not going to try; however, if you do see it, prepare to be slightly confused EVEN if you have a moderate familiarity with catholicism.
But I suppose that without depth and confusion, it simply wasn't funny enough to warrant a good rating (although flipping off satan as you ascend is pretty kick ass). It was funny, but thats not the point of the movie; it's called Constantine, not Constantine's Excellent adventure. I would like to think that Reeves has moved past that.
I dont like the phase of Keanu-bashing that seems to have arisen. Keanu Reeves is an excellent actor; he simply isn't adaptable. In all his post-"bill and ted" years, he has done a phenomenal job in all the roles where he can act like himself. In The Matrix 1-3, Johnny Mnemonic, Speed, Devil's Advocate, Constantine, (arguably) Chain reaction and Point Break, and of course Constantine, he has played well the stereotype of the characters he has portrayed (introverts). Also, in hardball he played a surprisingly convincing drunkard.
