So February 28 is the day I was born! Whoopee! My parents had asked me what I wanted, and I advised them on a bunch of album names and art supplies and I asked for baked goods, but instead I spent the night recovering from the shock of unwrapping an iPod nano, an iPod portable stereo (!), a digital camera (YESSS) and $50.00 of iPod song shop credit!
I still kind of wish they hadn't bought an iPod and a stereo for me. I realize I probably don't make a lot of sense when I say this, but I already have a CD player, and I really really really like the physical act of choosing a cd from a collection, taking care of it, placing it in the slot and stuff. And I love seeing the jackets, lyrics and cover art. But as we move more into a musical industry focused on MP3s, music in album form just becomes irrelevant, and artists might as well publish their creations song by song. That's a shame, really, because the way artists tackled the issue of using all the parts of an album to construct a full, together piece is really cool. It's more than just music.
Anyway. I'm cutting this, it's really long. Heh. Oh, and I also don't want to have to take care of the iPod and stereo. They're very expensive and give me this ominous feeling that stress will come with their presence. I told my mom (ungrateful a child as I am) and she seems to want to have me hush up about not fully appreciating their heartfelt but expensive gifts. I'm certain that I'll adapt, but then, I don't really like adapting when it isn't making me a less vulnerable person. How much would it suck to integrate using these expensive things into my life, and then have to un-adapt when they inevitably meet their unhappy fates? But I do love my new camera.
I think my favorite things about my birthday were the raspberries we bought, the biscuts Margaret made for me, anticipating all the CDs I'd wanted, the belt Caitlin made for me, and the toaster and wheat bread Amber brought this morning. So yes, there is now officialy a toaster at school, which we're decorating (come help if you want), and it's in Ms. Elsa's room, 101 in the new building. Awright.
And lastly, Kata (well, everyone really), if you haven't heard this song before, you should listen to it! It's called "
Bill Watterson". It's on this page, I just didn't want to direct link it.
