Haitian sociology...

Heroes, unsurprisingly, is doing it wrong. I know I'm only vaguely acquainted with the problem of slavery in Haiti from reading a couple of articles about it online, but am I reaching much by saying that Heroes *really* misrepresented the case of restavecs? Right now the recapper at TWOP is calling them prostitutes, because that's the word the episode used in explanation. Oy. They showed two girls held prisoner by paramilitary types in the jungle for sex slavery rather than slavery as domestic servants inside family homes by the upper classes. I'm not saying that restavecs are immune to sexual abuse, but this seemed wildly out of context.

ETA: the girls were played by Sonalii Castillo and Tatiyana Cotton, and their characters had names within the episode, but I can't remember what they were and they're only credited as "Older" and "Younger Haitian Girl". ETA2: I think their names might be Vivienne and Marie.
