Well, first here's the article:

For advanced type 2 diabetes, cutting bloodsuger levels to near normal slightly increases mortality. Advanced type 2 being people diagnosed atleast 10 years previous and in this case at high risk for cardiovascular disease.
3 more people per 1000 died by intensive therepy over the control group. Intensive therapy being 3-4 different pills and 4 insulin shots per day.
What it does not say:
Type 1 and non-advanced type 2 should not aim for near normal bloodsugar levels.
Type 2 should stop their medications.
Either way, goes to show you that they have a lot to do to fully understand diabetes, but there are so many studies out there that show not only the long term, but short term benefits of lowering bloodsugar and getting A1C as close to normal as possible. Like everything else though, a little goes a long way.
