On Monday, Tom, my Professional Practices teacher, asked us to bring in our work. So, I lugged my drawings to the art department, including that monumental behemoth and a cat toy. The point of looking at our work was to help us determine a direction to go for our theses next term. However, completely unsolicited, Tom said that he really liked my work. He also commented that most people would have troubles working on large enough scale to draw a figure life sized. This made me very happy. It's both different from praise from my peers, many of whose work I don't particularly admire, and therefore whose opinions I can't hold in high esteem, and from professors' comments during critiques, because they are almost required to compliment a work. I am now terribly excited to work on my thesis next term.
