Long Weekend

I'm back from vacation. I don't know what it is about vacations, but it seems that every time I want to take a photograph, my batteries start to die or something. But here are a few shots.

In the morning the gentle waves on the lake next to my parent's house in Maine cast ripples of light on the undersides of the branches of the old pine tree on the shore. The effect was hypnotic. I don't know if I managed to capture the effect on videotape (haven't had a chance to view it yet), but this was the best I could do with the camera.

The Children's Fair on the Boothbay Harbor commons. Lots of fun, although it was terribly hot that day. Sebastian wouldn't go on the giant slides, but he had fun anyway - until he dumped some water on a little girl and had to be taken home.

Sunday was kind of rainy, so we took the kids to the aquarium. At this point my batteries were too weak to allow me to use the flash, so I had to take photos without. This was a small shark that you could pat (with two fingers) in a tank. Sebastian refused to touch it, but we later managed to get him to touch a live blue lobster for a fraction of a second.

Here are some other people patting a shark.

Next time I'll bring spare batteries.
