Sebastian: School and Tooth #7

Apr 08, 2008 14:55

Last night he stayed up awfully late, listening to me read Doctor Dolittle's Zoo - we really charged through it. I found myself using the voice of Dennis Price as Louis D'Ascoyne from Kind Hearts and Coronets for the Museum Mouse; it just seemed to fit.

When I went to bed I wasn't comfortable. To be honest, I was feeling terribly guilty because we have to send him to parochial school, and we were going to go to enroll him the next morning. If only I had enough money to get us into a house in a decent school district! The thought of my little guy being forced to learn prayers and catechisms bothers me very much indeed. He's so innocent; why should he have to cope with the tortuous idea of original sin?

But we just don't have a choice right now.

Anyway, I climbed into bed with him. He was restless; after about half an hour he woke up and sleepily asked me for his water-glass. I passed it over, and was very proud when he automatically said "thank you".

He drank, and then suddenly said with delight "Dad! I lost my tooth!"

It had been wiggly for a while, and he'd been whimpering for much of the day that it was hurting him.

"Where is it?" I asked.

"In my hand."

I took it from him, and couldn't stop him from shouting out "Mom! I lost my seventh tooth!" He jumped out of bed and went to wake Teri. She congratulated him, and I took him downstairs to rinse out his mouth. He took it much better than he took the loss of some of his earlier teeth.

It's his upper left lateral incisor, by the way. So it seems that the Tooth Fairy will be visiting tonight.
