Since Sebastian has been a bit crazed about Willy Wonka lately, I've been thinking about the movies. In my web perambulations, I found a review...and couldn't resist commenting:

The Depp Wonka having Michael Jackson traits seems to be a near universal assessment. The reason for that in the portrayal escapes me.
Hmm, looked at the Wikipedia entry for Dahl; wonder how much his Dark Side (he was anti-Israel and at least sometimes anti-Semetic) hurts his popularity.
