(no subject)
I'm back! Sort of..It has taken me the better part of a week and a half
to get caught up on fics and such. Work’s been crazy after being away
on business travel, but I won’t waste LJ space on it, because this is
where I get away from all the work-drama.
The most recent story that touched me is pir8fancier’s Room Serviced. I don’t usually go for darkfics, but I’ve found that I need one well-written darkish Dramione fic once in a while to balance out the fluffy ones that I tend to gravitate towards. This one had me thinking about it for days---well written, with the author leaving out some details for the reader to figure out on their own. I find that I like not being given every minute detail in a story. Who cares what Hermione’s dress looks like at those endless Hogwarts balls or what her room looks like compared to Draco’s in their share suite?
I’m fairly happy with RL right now and it’s interesting that I’m now craving darker/angsty Dramione fics. I remember when I first read MelissaD’s “Damaged.” The story stayed with me for days and I hunted around for similar fics for a long time afterwards. I was fairly new to the fandom back then and this was my first taste of a darker variety.
vexia ’s Sunday Masquerade” spoke volumes. jess_lovecat’s “The Soulless” began a bit angsty and ended up happy, and the story offered a refreshing take on the Malfoy family dynamics.
Ok, so I admit I’m partial to darkfics with happy endings or at least, implied D/Hr endings. Nope, no Dramione character deaths for me. Or them ending up with someone else, either.
Angsty WIP fic rec:
Kyra4’s Valentine Encounter.
At first I was a bit unsure about this, but Draco is very…well, Draco in this fic. No smut but the story really doesn’t call for it (yet?). The development of the story is just right the right pace.
It's unfortunate that Damien Frost seems to have disappeared. I was looking forward to the next chapter of Repercussions.
I'm off to catch up on more reading and reviewing before I go hiking this afternoon. Yay for beautiful days like this!
