Last night, the author Kurt Vonnegut Jr. succumbed to brain injuries sustained in a fall several weeks ago. This affected me profoundly as would the passing of any of my heros, literary or otherwise. Any way, I'm pleased to see this post. Vonnegut was the man who made me want to write. And when he died, I could find no kindred soul with whom I might commiserate. I wrote "So it goes" on my whiteboard door thingy at work in lieu of my usual "Back in 15" and would you believe that at a University, not a single goddamn soul got the reference?
Sad.
Ok, punktastic former roommate o' mine. Here is what I have to share.
"We had a memorial services for Isaac a few years back, and at one point I said, “Isaac is up in Heaven now.” It was the funniest thing I could have said to a group of Humanists. I rolled them in the aisles. It was several minutes before order could be restored. And if I should ever die, God forbid, I hope you will say, “Kurt is up in Heaven now.” That’s my favorite joke."
If heaven does exist, god forbid, it's the kind of heaven I hope lets Kurt through the pearly gates.
