I took part in the MS (Multiple Sclerosis) Two Day Bike Ride last weekend.
Day one: 100 miles - We left Lincoln at 4:30am to get to the event, and hit the pavement by 6am. I was asleep that night by 9:15pm.
Day two: 50 miles - More of the same. Though day two had hills. Seven miles into the ride the route takes you up a behemoth of a hill. Half a mile long, and steep enough to warrant a special semi-trailer lane to allow slower traffic to get out of the way. Going down it on the way back to Columbus, I got up to 29.5mph...coasting the whole way.
Both days were on a bicycle, not a motorcycle. I had to clarify that for quite a few of my friends.
Here's some pics gorillad collected from the trip. A good number of them were taken from a cheapo disposable camera we picked up on the first day's route. My friend Adam is sporting the grey jersey, on the matching Gary Fisher, gorillad is in blue. gorillad's brother is in the sweat-drenched white t-shirt wearing his helmet incorrectly, and our friend Dennis dressed up for the Lance Armstrong look-alike contest. And then there's me, the little guy in black.
http://www.andrewduey.com/gallery/slideshow.php?set_albumName=2007MS150 I'm still healing some sunburns on the back of each ankle (I got sloppy with the sunscreen), but other than that I'm no worse for the wear. The scenery was great. I got a good part of the weekend out with friends, I'm in better shape as a result, and it was all for a good cause.
I think I ate eight bananas, just as many PB&J sammiches, a few gallons of water, and at least a gallon of Gatorade during the rides. My guts protested for three days following the event.
