bad apple

When you are a child, certain memories and sensations stick with you. As a child I played at the farm near our house, and they had a corn silo where silage was kept for the cows. We used to play in there all the time, and the smell of the stuff is something that stays with you.

Well, the other day I bit into an apple that I bought at the store, and the taste was just like the smell of the corn silage. What could possibly have happened to that apple to have it taste that way? I threw it away. In the past I have had the same experience with at least three other apples (I think that they were all Fuji's, but I am not 100 percent sure).
