So who protects me from the virus protectors?

On Saturday my sister called and asked for some help with her dishwasher. The way it was configured, it was draining through the vent onto her counter.  Not a good deal.  So I and Larry  went over and looked at it, and hooked it up like mine was (with no vent).  Then  I went home to check online for some information.  Well, as you can guess, I ( Read more... )

A few things I've learned about this stuff that may be of help to you next time...

1. if you use Outlook or Outlook Express (or any other Microsoft Outlook thing) for checking email, get rid of it. Outlook, by design, is very open to viruses. Most other email clients are, by design, immune to those same viruses. May I recommend Mozilla Thunderbird...does everything Outlook does and it's FREE!

2. the same as point #1, but instead of "outlook", it's "internet explorer". Internet Explorer, by design (and also due to some major bugs) is very exposable to virus issues. May I recommend Mozilla Firefox...a kick ass web browser, that is also free, and much less prone to issues.

3. I *hated* my experiences with both Norton and Mcafee stuff (tho the Norton tools seem slightly less insane in my experience). I like Ad Aware and Spybot Search & Destroy -- both great shareware products that let you use them for FREE, until YOU decide if you want to spend some money or not.

Those things alone will cut down your potential virus-type issues a TON...and won't cost you a dime either.
