All over the map

So Encore ran a Jaws-athon this weekend and we Tivoed all 4.  Over the last couple of nights (mostly by my wife’s insistence) we watched all 4.  The original still holds up as a masterpiece.  Despite the cheesy shark toy effects, it’s a character driven thriller that’s brilliant. Jaws 2 was fairly typical but covered too much of the same ground as the first. It was really done as a teen horror flick.   Jaws 3 (3-D!!) was brutal.  It was funny seeing 3-D “set-pieces” despite the regular presentation.  The Sea World setting was kind of cool, though.  The same story was told much better as Jurassic Park.  Jaws: the Revenge was simply horrible.  It also broke continuity, which of course is probably the least of its concerns.

BTW, in case you weren’t aware, they’re polishing off the last few episodes of Studio 60 in ER’s regular slot.  The show is so outstanding.  Last Thursday’s episode was awesome and Matthew Perry (matt), Bradley Whitford (Danny) and Amanda Peet (Jordan) were all no-shows.  This was a show about the show with very little Matt-Harry and Danny-Jordan relationship baggage.  Man, I wish it had caught on.

I received some computer advice from one of the IT guys at work.  He told me how to do a verbose boot (which may or may not be possible) which may tell me where the hangup in the boot process is.  He also told me about internal hard drive to external converters which have USB connections, so I could access them through the laptop.  I assumed they (or something similar) existed, but it was nice to have it confirmed.  For the most part I’ve turned the page regarding it.  We took it apart this weekend and moved the computer desk into the garage for storage.
