So I've been experimenting with various shaving razors the past several months.
There's a lot of new types of razors on the market, and I figured I'd not been getting such a good shave lately.... So the experiment began, and this is what I learned.
I started the job by switching randomly between the Sensor and Sensor Excel -- mostly because I could never remember when I was at the shop which was which. They both do a half decent job, but I wanted something that would get most of the stubble and keep it off most of the day.
Turns out, The Onion
was right. Anything more than 3 blades is taking the piss. I tried the Fusion -- the one with 5 blades plus one on the handle. How the sod do they expect people to shave under their nose. The bloody thing is too big to even navigate my filtrum. And who thought it was good idea to put a razor on the handle? It can't cut anything barring the annoying nicks on my fingernails. I am impressed they put it in a place that I'm not constantly cutting my fingers -- just the nails... but I'd rather be impressed that it actually cuts unwanted stubble.
So then I thought I try a generic. Tescos make a nice looking razor. Turns out cheap razors are just really bad. It felt like shaving with glass shards and gravel glued to stick. I don't recommend it.
At this point I took stock of the problem... My face has sensitive skin and thick facial hair. Not a good combination, but perhaps too much for a cheap brand to handle. So I best go with a name brand. I decided try something local -- the Wilkinson Protector.
Turns out, it's called that because it does a really good job of protecting the stubble from removal. The rocks and stick did a better job. I get visible stubble growth by lunchtime. Not nice.
So that's where I am now. I'm about to just revert to the Sensor, which I used with marginal success a decade ago. Does anyone out there know of anything better I could try?
