so, a year ago today hurricane katrina changed my life. i was in zachary (a town about 15 miles north of baton rouge). we lost power for about 10 hours, but we were physically ok. while what happened sucked while it was happening and immediately after, it was sort of a blessing in disguise (well, for me anyways, not so many people are lucky enough to see it that way). i got to go home for 4 months, work in a school, fall in love with about 500 kids, make some money and visit chicago. i had never heard of columbia college and i had never been to chicago. if not for the hurricane i wouldnt have come here, and found out about the school. i dont know what i would be doing, probably at home trying to find a job. i might not have been ready to meet someone because i did a lot of thinking and getting to know myself those 4 months i was home. the hurricane definitely put a fork in my road and so far, i'm happy with the direction i'm going in.
