As getting a PhD here requires me to obtain a minor in some outside field along the way, I think I should go for Inappropriate Sleep Practices. Given my background and current investigations, I think this represents quite the tidy fit. Yea, or nay? What say you?
In other news, I think I have an advisor finally. Haven't gotten anything offical yet, but he's getting me access to the lab & a computer & all that fun stuff, so I think a deal may have been made and the Pony Express is just a tad behind schedule these days, with the hills and nasty weather and all.
In any case, its Mason Peck. His webpage to give some background is here:
http://www.mae.cornell.edu/index.cfm/page/fac/peck.htm My project would be a continuation of the Non-Contacting Modular Reconfigurable Spacecraft project (
http://www.mae.cornell.edu/ncmrs/). Basically they showed the feasibility previously, and now I get to do some nifty system ID stuff to figure out the underlying dynamics and then try to make some gizmos that take advantage of it. Neato!
For Balog & KRO specifically, seeing all of this made me wonder if either of you had ever done demonstrations of superconducting levitation. It doesn't seem like there is a lot of setup involved for a pretty cool concept.
I'm going to Virginia for Thanksgiving, so I'll be missing out on seeing the Dallas folk. I'll be back for 2 weeks or so sometime around Christmas. When is everyone else in town? I'd like to maximize my overlap & such. Such an optimist.
