You know what's so great about it? This wasn't some half-assed apology. It was an honest to goodness "I was just wrong" sort of apology. (Unlike my "favorite" form of non-apology "I'm sorry if you were offended by that") I actually felt a little better about humanity after reading that.
(Of course, with my luck this'll turn out the be a grandstanding gesture and he's still a raving bigot, but...for now the evidence is good for him.)
