it's nice to be sitting at home with my feet propped with the tv on. the apartment is empty, except for me, so it's all peace and quiet, except for the tv. it's been a pretty good day and a pretty good week. i have a finance test on monday and an economics test next thursday. that will end the good times, for sure. i went to the rec today, so i feel somewhat constructively accomplished. that's good.
my assessment of the new bright eyes' album i'm wide awake, it's morning is that it's pretty good. i don't think it's as good as lifted..., but lifted... is excellent. i think the last track, "road to joy" is my favorite, despite the lame homage to beethoven's ode to joy. i also hear rem's "everybody hurts" in the underlying chords, not to mention a hint of "can you hear the people sing?" from les miserables. i haven't really gotten into the digital ash... album yet, but my expectations are slim. i listened to what one review said was the best song on the album and i didn't like it. i'll keep an open mind for now, though.
as for the new ...and you will know us by the trail of dead album worlds apart, it falls further short of their previous album, source tags and codes, than the bright eyes comparison i made before. source tags and codes was so good that i ranked it my personal best album of 2003. that distinction does not necessarily carry much weight, though. certainly nothing as significant as
pitchfork's endorsements, which have been mystifying me lately. like everyone else, they though the arcade fire's funeral was the
best album of 2004, yet it was only #45 for the
best of 2000-2004. what puzzles me is the an album by animal collective called sung tongs was #9 on the 2000-2004 list, while #2 on the 2004 list. maybe i'm just being too concerned with the whims of these purveyors of pretension.
i have long realized i am too plan-obsessed. in addition to being annoying to those around me, it really has an effect on my mood and temperment. if a plan is not kept, i get flustered and irritable. if certain people or events are involved, i get sad. that's not really healthy and can only hurt matters. if i ever bother you in this area, i apologize.
i went to an information session this evening with racetrac, the people that operate low-price gas stations. i had low expectations, but i felt like they did a remarkably good job selling their company, especially to a group of college students. they're headquartered in atlanta with work all over the southeast. i have an interview with them tomorrow morning, which could lead to internship opportunities this summer or full-time employment after next may. we'll see how that goes, but i am definitely glad to be making a step in the right direction in terms of internships. i really need to get something pinned down for this summer.
this kind of stuff is interesting to me.
i could read
this sort of stuff all day. i almost did yesterday.
