working for the weekend

"Well Chris [and Anthony] already posted about [their] weekend[s], but I'll post about mine d-d-despite the fact that our weekends were very similar because we went to the same places."

On Thursday, Chris visited us. He played with the kids for a while, Anthony arrived, we made fal', watched Seinfeld, &c. Good to see "m'boys" again.

Friday was our big cooking day for crystaljoelle. We made plenty of vegan goods such as Spinach Coconut Dal, coffee cake, corn bread, cupcakes, ekt. Did I mention I made dal?

Saturday was The Chalk Outline's first show at Stuff Cafe. Unlike some people, I showed up on time and caught the entire set. It was cool to see Mr. Hardaway doing his thing in a project unrelated to anything I was doing. Kind of like an out of body experience... or not at all like that.

As previously mentioned by others, the show ended with plenty of leftover time, so we did what anyone would do... hijacked the show, played our own songs using the band's equipment, and messed around. I believe the songs we played and the bands that originally performed the songs have already been mentioned, so I should list the people that played. Let's see... there was Tony (bass player from T.C.O.) who pulled out his funk bass stylings, some guy #1 (guitarist who plays with Tony in another band) who played bass and guitar and did some vocals on the Nirvana cover, Chris who played guitar and drums and some vocals, me who played bass, guitar, and drums (though mostly drums, since I hadn't played on Anthony's new set yet), some guy #2 (he also plays with Tony in the other band, but I'm not sure his main instrument) who played a small amount of guitar during our samba jam, and Anthony who played drums off and on when he wasn't stealing his equipment away to the van.

It was a really fun show, both during the "main" event, and the afterwards musicality. I really like playing music with other people. Say what you will about YSIB (and I'm sure you will), but I had a great time playing music with those guys as often as I did back in high school. I'm glad I can continue to share my musical joy with others even to this day! ("Scary Song" anyone?)

Sunday, we visited Crystal to give her the food and to comfort her. Cheepy and Muphi gave her hugs and played some cheery piano music to lighten the mood. As an added bonus, we got to hear some people (well, 1 person) talk about how Bush is the worst president ever (paraphrased). I wish we could have stayed longer and I hope we will see her again soon. It should be noted that Muphi kept talking about how glad he was that he gave her those nice notes. (He made her two construction paper cards with very sweet messages on them.)

Later that night, Anthony and Chris stopped by one last time. We cooked more polenta (veganized), smashed some bros from Malaysia, and had a chat with Sheneneh. Even Rosemary joined in the fun. We were an awesome tennis team, of course. Chris and I then slept while Anthony and Rosemary watched The Incredible Melting Man.

Good times were had by all, even cynical members of generation X.
