It was 7 years ago this past week that I lost my father. Leukemia took his life, but his soul lives on. The day after he died, June 13th 1994, the temperature in Cleveland sky rocketed above 90 for a week. Needless to say, the funeral was a hot one....all dressed in black and all. My 3 brothers and I served as pall bearers....none of us even owned a suit, mom bought us all matching suede vests. Brenden played the bagpipes. We had a small reception at mom's after....no air conditoning....did I mention it was hot? Like Africa hot....if I may quote Biloxi Blues. This year I smiled for the three days after the anniversary when the temperature in Cleveland rose above 90. I knew it was dad reminding me that he loved the heat. The best part....Friday. I had a huge corporate visit coming, I worked a double Thursday to get ready. They corporate folks were late. Supposed to be there at 4, got there after 6. They left at 7, and I had to rush out to pick up Heather, the car....she no go. The battery died. This was not pleasant, Heather was waiting, and I had no jumper cables. Thankfully, there was an auto parts store across the street. $90 later I had a battery and a new pair of pliers. I went to work in the 90 degree heat. A half hour later I had a running car, and a sweat-soaked shirt. My father was there with me fixing the car, just as he was 7 plus years ago.
I miss my dad, his advice, his humour.....
Happy Father's day Dad, I love you.
