If only all days could be this good... At 11:30, after grabbing some directions off of the internet, I hopped into my sister's car (the Kia >_<) and took a bit of a drive east. FYI, the Kia is a standard... and when you factor in the equation Bobbo = has minimal experience with a standard, it sure could make for an interesting, jutty ride. But after a week or two of practice, and a bit of first gear practice by myself before i left, i was just fine (in a manner of speaking).
So yeah, take the interstate East to fulfill a long-awaited re-get-together with the Elyse, the first such encounter since a year earlier... (granted though, mostly because she was on the other side of the pond in, as homer simpson calls, The Land of Chocolate ^_^). After about 40 minutes of driving, I take the exit into Mystic, Connecticut... Now we had agreed to meet at a "hoyts" cinema that was in town. And due to faulty directions, i think I must've driven around every square mile of Mystic before I found it. And of course, I had driven by it 3 times. The problem was I had stopped in the exact same place 30 minutes earlier.. only to find that the name of the movie theater was NOT Hoyts... So I had gone into the city looking for it.. And it wasn't until I had covered the entire area of the town that I realized that that must be the one because that was the only damn theater in town. 20 minutes late.. bah. Typical me >_<.
But I made, she made it... And we were eventually on our way. To where? Well, we weren't quite sure of that at that time. But we hit the interstate west with some Guns n' Roses blarin' on the old stereo. Eventually, we decided to stop for lunch. So we see a sign indicating that some food (and phone) was at the next exit in Essex. So I take the exit... We never found any food (and I don't think there was a phone either... ) Damn sign lied to us! Lying signs suck.
So back on the highway, we stop in Middletown (cuz i like Middeltown...) Grab some lunch at a diner ... and with lack of anything else to do, decided to catch a movie. We bought our tickets then strolled down the street looking at all the shops. It must've been renovating season or something, because it seemed like they all were having renovations done. But we find a record store which seemed interesting... just not interesting enough. Down the street was a music (instrument) store... where I then had to rapidly exit before i accidentilly bought something. >_> ... On the way back, we stopped in a "dollar store".. except nothing there was actually for a buck... It was the second sign that lied to us >_<. But found some very interesting items. It was a like a third-rate grocery store. Picture this... candied octopus bits in soya oil "imported from spain"... and honestly, would you ever use a product called "Hair Mayonnaise"? Definitely not right...
We head back to the theater and watch Spider Man 2.... which did not really get a positive review from me... For one, I don't really like Tobey MacGuire at all. .. at all.... (case in point: Seabiscuit, Pleasantville... everything else he's in)... Second, there was just too much pseudo, cheesy, hand-made action. None of it seemed natural to its atmosphere.
Anyway, after driving around in the rain, we get some ice cream before I bring her home... or to her aunts house in Rhode Island or whatever. Dark backroads in a hick town in Rhode Island in a car I could barely drive isn't a good time. But we survived. Said our goodbyes. And I made my way home... ... it was smooth sailing home too, which was a bit surprising (to me, anyway). ... and it was a good thing that there werent any cruisers out cuz i was doing some cruisin of my own... I think I was booking at around 75-80 all the way home (speed limit was 60 and Connecticut troopers are usually everywhere).

...We didn't do a whole lot, but that's ok by me. I'll take a day of spontaneous cruisin and chillin over a day overplanned anyday... thanks for a great day, 'lyse ^_~

and after today, i feel that i can now comfortably drive a standard... but with any luck, i won't have to ever drive the Kia anymore.. ... It's not a me car...

But anyway... who else is up for some long-distance fun with me? ^_^

connecticut, elyse
