sometimes these american poets
they write of hearts carried in hearts
silver churches in forests
and emily, the dickinson, yes,
wild nights and oh the sea
poe and his annabelle lee
but you carry not my heart.
not only.
you have all of me.
i wake up, right arm gone,
it is around your waist
and my eyes,
in your mirror
at dinner i chewed on my lip,
tried to feel my knees,
but they were under your table
i suppose that my fingers are with your fingers
i have had to learn chopsticks with my left hand
perhaps the only time i am all together
is when we are not apart
