so i just got back from nationals in NYC. it was pretty awesome. on friday i went to A block and then left school. i went out to breakfast with katie and jess at the diner in auburndale. it was cute. the scrambled eggs are very good. they put an insane amount of butter on their toast. then we went back to katie's house and played DDR for a while (as if i needed any more confirmation that i am not very coordinated). we went to haleigh's house and left for NY around 12:30, after having a lot of difficulty fitting all of our stuff in haleigh's van. we realized that we had packed enough food for a few weeks, even though we were only going to two days.
our hotel was a "european style" hotel. which basically meant that everything was very very small. except for the huge black guy who worked at the front desk. by the time we put all of our stuff into our room, there was barely any room for our bodies. after we spent a while laughing about the hotel, we modeled the uniforms that our coach gave us to wear (we couldn't wear our usual uniforms), which were equally hilrarious. then we went out to dinner at a nice italian place, hung out for a while at the hotel, and went to bed. in the middle of the night someone tried to open our door. me and jess were petrified. katie thought we were lame. we decided it was probably someone trying to get into the wrong room. but it was still pretty scary.
the next day, we basically did nothing until 1, when we left to take the subway to the meet. the track was really intimidating and loud. the race (the 4 by mile) didn't go so well- haleigh was sick and ran 20-30 seconds slower than she would have, i fucked up and got confused and ran like 5 seconds slower than i shouldve, katie ran really well, and jess didn't go all out because she knew we wouldnt place. it was pretty disappointing. i feel bad for katie because me and jess got another chance the next day, but she didn't and even though she ran really well we fucked her over. oh well.
that night we went out to dinner at the worst restaraunt ever. it sucked. it was really expensive (a chicken caesar salad = $24) and the food was really boring and blah. the bread was hard. my chicken was ok, but the pasta with marinara sauce (which was $18) was really gross- the sauce tasted like it was out of a can and had been sitting around for a few months. blech. then we went back and went to bed nice and early.
today i woke up at 6:30 so i could shower and eat before leaving for the meet at 7:30. it kinda sucked. on the subway i experienced the single most horrible smell of my life. the car was completely empty when we got in, except for one guy sitting with his jacket over his head. we were all thinking, "look, lots of seats for us!" but once we got into the train we realized why the car was empty. the stench was absolutely repulsive. i keep getting flashbacks of the smell and gagging. the guy was sitting there, we assumed asleep, with puddles of vomit around him. later i realized that it was very possible he wasn't alive. it was really sad.
the track was much emptier and less stressful today. we ended up coming in 5th which means that we are all-americans! we got medals and tee shirts and it was really exciting! this whole track season has been so weird. things have been going so well, but i just haven't felt that excited- it's almost like i don't believe that things are actually happening. and now a week off before outdoor! yessss!
so, i'm really regretting being in the 2nd art show, seeing as we have to put stuff up on tuesday and i haven't done anything to prepare so far. fuuuuck. at least i dont have track this week so i will have time to work on stuff.
in other news, my birthday is in 6 days! i'm planning on having a harry potter themed party this weekend (props to eva for the idea), but i need to know whether people will be around this wknd/whether fri or sat would be better. i also need to decide whether to get a harry potter cake (from icing on the cake maybe?) or a plain cake (rosie's?) and decorate it. we will have to all wear hats. and maybe have some sort of harry potter themed food. and activities. any suggestions?
