This is my first rewatch, so, lots of things here! Hope I’m doing this right.
- How could is it out there? It looks cold, but they still survived a month outdoors without winter clothing, so I wonder… - What the hell was up with the German soldier they take prisoner? He was crouching, then walking weirdly… If I were Winters, I’d have though I found some sort of Yeti or Sasquach… - I bet Bull had a lot of morphine. And real sharp sizzuhs, but he kept them, because Doc never asked him. He asked Penkala while the guy was panicking, but he never asked Bull. - Aw, Gene. He probably just wants to curl up in a little ball and sleep for days already. It’s gonna get much worse… *sadface* - It feels weird when Babe says «He’s just a kid!» He’s just a kid too, damn it. :( - AHAH, look at Replacement Julian, being all cute. I get the feeling he’s like ‘Look at me, I’m part of the gang!’ in the Hinkel scene, like he’s trying hard but failing a little bit. But that may be just because we never saw him before, even though he was supposed to be Babe’s close friend. - Dike looks like a big teddy bear sometimes. I’d almost feel sorry for him if he didn’t open his mouth… - It’s probably been asked before, but, who was with Gordon in his foxhole? - Ohh… Gordon and his coffee. Gordon would have been my best friend in Bastogne. - Somebody should give McClung a burger. Or something. They all look hungry, but the poor guy looks like he’s starving. - First time I watched, I thought Joe’s toes had fallen off and what he was showing Doc was pretty much a stump or something. - «Size nine, just like everybody else.» I have no idea why, but in the French dub, they added McClung saying «I’m a ten!» - That lieutenant, the one who couldn’t feel his feet, was that Peacock? I’m really bad at picking up faces, it seems… - Oh, Buck. «Stop them from singing, stop. Stop them.» Aw. It really hit me, how close he was to breaking, just at that moment. I don’t know why, he just seems… almost maniac, or something. - Aw, Skinny. I thought at first it was his bone sticking out of his skin. Aouch. Thos are huge-ass splinters though. - I have to mute the part where they slip and fall while carrying Skinny. There’s this ‘crack’, I always feel like it’s his leg that snapped, and I always wince. - … Poor Bastogne citizens. - The soldier the nurse is cleaning bandages of is dead, right? I don’t really get what going on… They’re not handling him like he’s alive, but if he’s dead, why are they wasting bandages on getting the wound clean for? - Aw, Skinny’s so cute when Renée takes care of him… And Gene smiling! - Renée’s really pretty. :) I like her a lot. - And I love how the French dialogue seems very natural in this episode. - Okay, when Julian gets hit? Ugh. His throat is all… open and gushing and it’s just really not pretty. Not sure they could have done anything for him, even if they had come back… - Aw, Babe… - Aw, Toye. :( - Gene’s hair somehow looks different from scene to scene… Or is it just me? It looks really short of the sides in the scene where he has his hands inside the guy’s guts, but the next scene it looks much longer. Maybe it’s the lighting. (Maybe it’s just me) - Aw, Buck… - Gordon! D: I can’t help but think they made his wound much worse by moving him like that. But they really didn’t have a choice, did they. - «Lip.» «Yeah, buddy?» «You’re standing on my hand.» I have no idea why I love those lines so much. ♥ - NUTS! - Is Winters worried about Gene, or about what’ll happen to the men if Gene can’t do his job? - When Buck tells Bill about his girl… it breaks my heart really badly. ): - «I am shaking so goddamn much, I feel like I’m dancing.» AHAH. I say something like this pretty much everyday from November to March when I have to wait for the bus. - We’re in a dell, guys! :D - Even though he came back, I missed Harry a lot after this. - How the hell did Babe manage to hurt his hand like that? - Poor citizens of Bastogne x2… - I know it’s wrong, but I laughed at the ‘truck on fire’ that almost ran Gene over, ahah. - Again, I know it’s wrong to think that in that dramatic moment, but… shouldn’t Renée’s scarf be… dirtier? It looks perfectly clean… - Baaaaabe. ♥ I love Babe's laugh, ahah.
What the hell was up with the German soldier they take prisoner? He was crouching, then walking weirdly
From what I remember, he wandered behind Easy's lines to take a crap, and Winters let him finish and then took him prisoner. So he was probably crouching, etc. cause he really had to go.
When Buck tells Bill about his girl… it breaks my heart really badly. ):
Me too! You can tell he's cracking a bit more here. And I love the detail that it looks like NMcD in the picture too!

Ahah, yeah, I looked at the scene and I was like - «it almost looks like he's... no, can't be - why the hell would he go behind enemy lines just to take a crap? A bit risky, isn't it?»
I don't think he MEANT to get behind Easy's lines to do that....just that he got away from his OWN lines and wandered over to Easy by accident...got lost :P
Aw, poor guy. Who knows taking a crap could be so dangerous!
(I'm sure someone'll have a story about a toilet blowing up or a bear near a campsite, now, but that'll probably be more appropriate in the crack thread. :p)
I love how Babe calls Julian a kid and a replacement, even though it was only a few episodes ago that Babe was the squeaky-clean recruit. *pets him*
Wait, that French dub with McClung saying "I'm a ten" is both awesome and completely inexplicable. Good.
I think Winters is worried about Gene AND about the effect it'll have on the men if he's not there to patch 'em up and check on them constantly. Poor Gene really goes through the ringer in this ep, and I think Winters can see that he's heading towards a real good case of shell shock. I love that Winters tries to get him off the line and keep and eye on him, even when he's the company head honcho. <3
Ohmigod, Babe's breathy possibly-ill-but-really-adorable laugh is just fab.
AHAH, look at Replacement Julian, being all cute. I get the feeling he’s like ‘Look at me, I’m part of the gang!’ in the Hinkel scene, like he’s trying hard but failing a little bit.
That's exactly what he's doing. It's one of those things that's different from series 'verse than from RL, since we now know Julian was part of Babe's "batch" of replacements. Here he's a raw replacement.
- How could is it out there? It looks cold, but they still survived a month outdoors without winter clothing, so I wonder…
They wouldn't all be outside all the time. You can go to the regimental CP or all the way to division CP in Bastogne for a bit, especially if one of the medics or your superiors think you're freezing and just being stubborn about it.
Alot of them were "just kids" i.e barely outta high school or just starting college.
Yeah, I know. ):
First time I watched, I thought Joe’s toes had fallen off and what he was showing Doc was pretty much a stump or something.
Ahah, I know that now, but the first time I watched it, for half a second, my heart stopped. I expected the worst, ahah.
I think Gene stepped on it by mistake when he was scrambling to get out of the foxhole.
Trying to imagine how you could cut your hand open by being stepped on by a boot.... *wince* Aouch. Must have hurt like a bitch. (And that's really unlucky, too.)

His foot's just swollen from trenchfoot.
- Is Winters worried about Gene, or about what’ll happen to the men if Gene can’t do his job?
He's worried about both. He cares about the men as much as Gene does.
- How the hell did Babe manage to hurt his hand like that?
I think Gene stepped on it by mistake when he was scrambling to get out of the foxhole.
