My grandma used to say that you only really get to know a guy when you share a meal with him. So how about dinner tonight?

It's funnier this way anyway. bob_fraser_snr June 15 2010, 22:25:21 UTC
Fine idea. Six a reasonable time?

[Bob was prompt, getting his food in time to sit at six and looked for Trip.]

[Trip was a couple minutes late, like five, because something in the engine room here had commanded his curiosity, and if it wasn't for the fact that he was meeting Bob, he probably would've skipped the meal altogether. Grief and being ticked off at the only person you knew from back home made for a strange kind of determination.

He grabbed some food and found his Inmate, taking the seat across from him with a sheepish smile.] "Sorry I'm late. Every time I think I got this thing's engine worked out, something always comes outta left field and surprises me."

[He nodded, accepting the man's apology] I imagine that might be the intention. At least it keeps you occupied. [He smiled. He knew well how depressing being at loose ends might be.] Have you had a chance to look at my file?

"I gave it a look." [Which was code for skimmed and he'd read it more thoroughly later.] "Why? You got something you wanna put on the table?"

[He shook his head] It's our mutual reference point. I was wondering if you had any questions. [he started to pick at his food.]

"Kinda seems to me like maybe you should be the one with the questions. You ain't really got a file on me, you know."

[He sat back a little.] Well, I know your name. You have a friend onboard. You're an engineer belonging an organisation named 'Starfleet' and you've achieved the rank of commander. I could ask what your deal with the Admiral is, but if you feel that that is a too personal a question, I understand.

"I'm also from about two hundred years into your future," [He remembered that much from the man's file. And wasn't that just a trip in itself. Seeing as all of the problem's of that time were pretty much gone by his.]

"I recently lost my sister in an alien attack. I asked the Admiral to bring her back."

[Bob nodded. He was genuinely sorry to hear about his sister.] I'm sorry to hear that. I will try to rehabilitate for you. [Unfortunately, it wasn't the magic trick that he made it sound.]

"I appreciate that." [Small pause and then he added.] "Why do you think you're here?"

Well, my last warden showed me my file and it told me that I was here for the pursuit and subsequent death of one Holloway Muldoon.

"I don't mean what the file says. I mean, do you even think you deserve to be here?"

Well, I definitely could have prevented the man's death. And I chose not to. 'Always bring them back alive'. And I didn't.
