“Two days,” Roy says. “We agreed this thing was real, and we had two days together before the coup. And I have thought about you, I have thought you here with me every day and every night. Your breath in my ear and your hand on my chest. In the dark … I was on the run for weeks. I tried to hold onto you, to the memory of you.”
“Me too,” Ed says. “Every fucking day. More than that, like every fucking hour of every fucking day. I'm surprised I'm halfway functional.”
They kiss.
This is so feelingy for both of them and a declaration of love that I just burst into tears reading it. Cause they don't do mushy much, but this, it's painful and perfect and I just... ♥ So many feels!
I have been anticipating this reunion for a while and even thought up a few scenarios of how it might go down. (The one where they kiss in front of Briggs was totes one of them too.) But guh, I never thought of this one. Poor, poor Ed, he just can't ever catch a break. And Roy saved him! Ahhh, best thing ever. ♥
You've got me wondering about the situation Al's in. I'm as confused as he is, I think, over the shadow arm. Loved the theory and depth that you took it when Al was talking with the homunculus, and woah does that turn things on their head. Oh the possibilities! I can't wait to see what you do with this. Also with Al's decision. It looks like he really doesn't have much choice other than to agree to Katzenklavier's terms, at least until Roy makes his move.
Anyway I know whatever happens will be great, and I'll be excited to see how it all goes down.
OH! AND DAT PICTURE. *coughs* I think I stopped reading for a good five minutes (at least) to oogle it before I remembered there was still more of the chapter. *laughs* Looooove that picture. ♥

Sky_dark helped me beat that Roy/Ed reunion scene into shape, so a big chunk of the credit for it working goes to her! I've gone and written a Roy/Ed fic where the two of them are separated until nearly 3/4 of the way through, so I knew there was a lot riding emotionally on that scene. It's exactly because they don't do mushy that much and tend to express themselves indirectly that there's the opportunity to make those bursts of uncontainable high emotion carry a lot of weight and also imply still more by leaving some things unsaid. I have a lot of fun with all the ways I can make them say I love you without ever uttering that exact phrase. So I'm so so glad that worked for you and you dug it! <3 Um, have a hankie!
Al is in a tough bind at the moment: he's watching some potentially very big stuff start to go down, and there's not much he can do but spy and pass on messages through Mrs B when he can. It's going to be more apparent what's up with Selim and the Homunculus next chapter.
I spent some time playing with light source and folds of sheets in that pic while the chapter was in beta. I couldn't not draw that scene, although I seem to have inadvertently made the bed look roomier than it was …
