Fic: Wrong Turn, Chapter One of Three

Aug 02, 2009 15:06

This extended piece of silliness was originally written for sara_rojo as part of the fma_ihop kinkmeme. Her prompt was that she wanted a kickass Ed making mincemeat of some poor bad guy, rescuing Roy, Al or Ling, and making them swoon with his sheer excellence. I tried to oblige. Check out the meme if you haven't been already, it's full of awesome fic.

Ok, re-read this again, and just now noticed how incredibly competent Mustang was in this, too -not only Ed, but Mustang too lived up to his reputation. I love the little geeky alchemical details

Something else I noticed

He must have no idea that he was beautiful now, Roy thought. He was so focused on his quest, on his brother, on the path ahead of him, that Roy was willing to bet that he wouldn't even have noticed admiring looks or attempts at flirtation. Which, right now, was an excellent thing for the remnants of Roy's dignity. To his mental list of lessons from today - tell someone where you're going, head injuries are embarrassing, sew a spare glove into the lining of your jacket - he added, Edward Elric. To be reviewed, later, when he had all his faculties back.

Ok, first, unknowingly gorgeous Ed is one of my favourite kinks (my god, you touch on them allXD). Second, I hadn't noticed that Roy in Wrong Turn verse had already noticed and was aware of Ed's beauty; does he remember it in No Small Injury? he doesn't even recoil back or feel horrified to notice the attraction, but rather seems intrigued and interested in contemplating him further, even if here he's probably underage LOL

Yeah, hee hee. I decided not to have him recoil in horror as I'd read quite a few fics where he does and wanted something different. Of course, there are also many fics where he goes "hoorah, my fifteen-year old subordinate is hot and has a crush on me, let's go". XD I imagined Ed to be sixteen in this one, which makes him - just!- legal in the UK, although here, thank goodness, there would still be laws about sexual harassment from one's much older boss/teacher.

As for what I was going for here there's a difference between noticing that someone is gorgeous and pursuing them. My friends and I sometimes talk about the 'work perv' - someone hot in your workplace whom you have no intentions of going after - it's just that sneakily enjoying the eye candy passes the time. Of course, this theory has been known to backfire on the perv-er ...

"hoorah, my fifteen-year old subordinate is hot and has a crush on me, let's go".

I'm such a perv, because this is my favourite variantXD
Though Roy panicking has also its appeal, as he usually looses control from time to time about his attraction -those fics are actually all about Roy telling himself he shouldn't, and Roy's body telling him he definitely shouldXD-, and we both love to see Roy loose control, don't we? ;-) That's a kink we share with EdXD
But actually, your reaction is more believable; Roy is mature enough that he wouldn't recoil in horror, and he obviously sees Ed as adult enough to see death and deal with very unsavory parts of life, but he's close and introverted (and paranoidXD) enough that he wouldn't launch cheerfully into a relationship with a much younger subordinate like that, and specially not Ed, who's so sharp and catches on weaknesses and things very quickly, and who's a master at pushing unconciously Roy's emotional buttons even in canon

So Ed's barely legal here. I reiterate my perviness, because that's really really hot (actually, not-legal Ed is completely fine in my books, as long as he's 14 at least; but then, age of consent in my scary country is 13)

Oh, I totally get that eye-candy at work thingXD and it's actually very hot to imagine Roy interested in enjoying Ed as eye-candy, at least for the moment. I love fics where Roy is all devouring Ed with his gaze in his office, or looking at his assXD

Hahaha, you're the good kind of perv. And I think you're in good company there too. XD

I do love Roy when he panics, and you're right that the whole "I shouldn't, no, really, I shouldn't, oh, okay, all right then" thing has its appeal. It's also a reaction I find in its own way very believable - we've all been there at some point (but in most cases, probably not with a fifteen-year-old subordinate XD). But yeah, as usual you're very insightful here about Roy and Ed and why Ed is kind of a dangerous prospect.

I am actually rather fond of 'your scary country's' liberal laws on sexuality - it's the only place in Europe right now where two guys or two girls can get married properly. In the UK there's same sex marriage, but they call it 'civil partnership' in order not to annoy the religious lobby.

/politics

To get back on topic, Roy would have to be a saint not to stare at Ed's ass a tiny bit, no? It's right out there, I'm sure even Hawkeye's checked it out.

Thank you! some fans recoil in horror a la Roy when I mention my preferences for teen!Ed

I do love Roy when he panics, and you're right that the whole "I shouldn't, no, really, I shouldn't, oh, okay, all right then" thing has its appeal. It's also a reaction I find in its own way very believable - we've all been there at some point

You summarised the appeal perfectly ^.^
Actually, another problem I have with this situation is that Roy doesn't seem to indulge himself too much; most fans gift him with a house barely lived-in, he doesn't seem to go out -really go out- much, he doesn't have an outstanding wardrobe...so he probably wouldn't indulge himself with Ed either, specially being so focused on his goals. But it can be done well, making Ed's smokin' hotness really too much to resist, and making us readers feel so too

i'm actually incredibly fond of our gay marriage laws, but you're mistaken, you see: the age of consent is so low because it's really old and dates to when we got out of Franco's dictatorship, I think (maybe even during the dictatorship, since they were prudes but also perverts, and I mean in the bad sense). Our homosexual marriage law is pretty new and totally associated to our left-wing government ^.^
We had that stupid "civil partnership" thing before. You may be just one step behind! If you're gonna allow them to be together, why not formalize it all the way? I don't even get the problem in your country, since the majority of british are not catholic, I believe (and you invented a church just to get divorcedXD)

Roy would have to be blind not to look at Ed's ass, seriously, that kid is sin incarnate; the leather pants don't help. Hawkeye checking Ed out is ridiculously hot!!! I just imagined both of them looking at Ed's ass, noticing the other's look, and being unable to call him/her on it because, duh, hypocritesXD
Then, I wonder if the other men in the office check him out as well?XD We all know Arsmtrong is gay for Ed, but Armstrong is gay for everyoneXD

Yeah, manga Roy doesn't have enough fun. It's funny, enemytosleep and I talked quite a bit about how his apartment would be, since we both like to obsess over details, and we decided that it would make sense for it to be quite sterile, library (and bedroom?) apart. I've known people who work 24/7 who have similar kinds of places - although conversely working all the time could mean your flat is a complete tip, and in fact I've noticed when people write anime or manga Roy having a post-Ishbal breakdown (which incidentally, I don't see happening in the manga), his flat's a total sty.

I don't see Roy as totally celibate, though - just, yeah, as I'm writing the character he wouldn't set out to seduce Ed or probably anyone at all.

Ah, that's really interesting about the age of consent laws! The civil partnership thing ... and I speak from experience here, having got 'civilly partnered' (aka married!) to my wife just this summer. What's really silly is that everyone under fifty uses vocab like 'wedding', 'married', 'wife' etc. to talk about civil partnerships anyway, the documentation and ceremonies are practically identical, the rights and responsibilities are the same ... It's purely for the religious lobby, who as you point out don't have too much power anyway in the UK. And as you point out, we invented our church so Henry VIII could get divorced (and get his hands on the monasteries' money, because he was broke).

Yeah, Armstrong is gay for everyone. Apart from Maria Ross, he's straight for her. Either way, Armstrong hugs=scary tiem. XD

But I think manga!Roy gets more love because he doess't have enough fun and is a total dorkXD
It's interesting what you point out Ishbal, because not only I agree with you, but I imagine he got so tidy and kept his apartment so nice and unused precisely after Ishbal, when he got goals important enough to stop having fun and goofing around, and started doing extra hours at the office

Oh, I don't see him totally celibate either, just not as experienced and such a ladies' man as people believeXD. He probably had a bunch of one night stands and maybe a coupe of half-hearted serious relationships. But even if he didn't have some problem opening up and letting others into his life -which he has-, I believe his women (and probably even men) would have a problem with Riza. She's such a constant in his life, one has to learn to live with her and share him or not at all. And of course, when Roy looks at it like "whoever vs. Riza", it quickly becomes "Riza>>>>>whoever". And even if his partner got over all that there's still the fact that he's married to his job
I like that he's not out to seduce anyone. Not only is it believable, but also very realistic, since he has more important goals to be focused on, and he doesn't seem to lack confidence about his skill to acquire bed company, should he want to.
Besides, don't they say love finds you when you least expect it? ;-)

Like I said, ridiculous. Like you say, it IS a marriage in all but the name. What a ridiculous way to bother homosexuals! I hate the Church, so I may be a little too vehement (and I'm sorry if you're religious, though I imagine you are not)
Can't you both come here to get married? I have no idea how social laws go inside the EU. Anyway, YOU know you are married, whatever some twisted sixty year-old man in violet skirts who's had no emotional relationship to anyone thinks.
(and people tell you you're too verboseXD)
Anyway, if you want to come here -or rather, there, as I'm actually in Italy, where they're far worse off than you are BTW-, just tell me and I'll take you to Chueca! The fantastic and chic homosexual quartier of Madrid. We celebrated Europride twice, if I remember correctly. My city is totally gay friendly, our right-winged Major was on first page on Zero, a gay magazineXD
(though when you travel far south or far north, things change a bit)

Henry VIII has always been one of my favourite hystorical figures. The man was a pig, but he had some guts and no shameXD

I think, the way Armstrong sparkles and Maria manfully wears trousers, he is totally gay for herXD

Also, totally unrelated, but now that I think about it, I want a lesbian pair. But since i want Riza with Miles, I just don't know what to campaign for...my other candidate was Rebecca, but here she's happily paired with Havoc...it's also a pity that you killed off Olivier (who I have the hots for ^:^) because she could totally top anyone in existance ever

I better finish nowXD

Yeah, once again I totally agree with you about Roy! I see his relationship history as pretty much exactly the same, the personal transformation after Ishbal, etc. Yeah.

Civil partnerships: we could go to Spain and get married - but to be honest, everyone in the UK from banks to our families treat us as married anyway. I think that it's likely the law will change again in the next few years to allow gay marriage properly - it's been completely uncontroversial so far, and even right-wing people in the younger generation tend to be totally fine with it (and our more conservative relatives all came to our wedding and partied with everyone else). Actually, though, we went to Spain for our honeymoon! And one of the reasons we picked it was that gay marriage is legal, so we could be open about the fact that we we were on our honeymoon (not to religious old ladies in tiny villages, but, you know, in general). Of course the other reason we picked Spain is that it rocks! If we're ever in Madrid (and you're there and not in Italy), we'll totally take you up on that offer!

Henry VIII is a fascinating guy, but he scares me. His reputation in the UK is largely as a jolly, harmless old soul (unless you're married to him), when in fact the man was, as you say, a pig and a tyrant. But fascinating!

Yeah, there's so little in the way of good yuri pairings in FMA! And I find it ironic that I haven't written any yet, despite the fact that I'm a girl married to a girl! Again, this is totally a conversation enemytosleep and I were having the other day. Of course I would go to Olivia too, because *I* have the hots for her, but she's dead, so ... Maria Ross is tempting, though - manga and Brotherhood Maria always reads to me as a cute butch (and kind of hot herself), so ... hmm. *puts thinking cap on*

Hell yeah, Spain rocks. Italy here is the closest to it, and I wouldn't end up here for good ever
I told you, you're just one step off homomarriage!! Have faith ;-)

Well, we've studied Henry VIII as a pig and a tyrant all right, but teachers generally write him off as a simpleton. Was he?

You can pair Olivier with almost anyone and make it work (and how amusing is it that the only character you can do this with apart from her is Ed?). I loved Winry/Schezska first anime. I like Riza/Rebecca A LOT. Dante/Trisha and Dante/Sloth are guilty pleasures of mine, too. There's also Roze/Winry, which has more canon basis than most I mentioned here, and I itch to pair Mei with a girl (even if Mei/Al is my favourite het pairing in the series). No matter how much I try, I can't see Lust with a woman (and damned it, since I find her the hottest woman on the show), and I don't care for Ran Fan enough to pair her up with anyone; though, now that I think about it, Riza/Ran Fan is kinda very hot
As you can see, I'm totally smitten with Riza
Maria Ross you can pair off with practically anyone. First anime she was attracted to Hohenheim, but otherwise, she has no relationships that limit the possibilities. But she's probably one of the least appealing for me, physically speaking
