Fic: No Small Injury, Chapter One of Nine

My small but perfectly formed flist may have heard me go on about a multi-part sequel to  Wrong Turn. This is it! There will be mystery, action, suspense, cliffhangers, chapter illustrations, hopefully a few lulz and of course, buckets of sexual tension. This is also a sequel to  Fight On, Second Lieutenant!, because Havoc and Rebecca won't leave my ( Read more... )

Don't apologise for the long review - so happy that you appreciated it so much. Particularly pleased to hear that you liked the portrayal of Central - I really wanted to give it some atmosphere and make it seem like a real European city. I don't know Germany so well so it's basically a more of a combination of London and a bunch of Italian and Spanish cities I like. You're right, while to some extent I thought Central might come to life a bit once Bradley's iron boot was off, so much of it is that Ed and Al actually have time to appreciate these things now. Which I loved writing, they deserve a nice cold beer after everything they've been through! But yeah, maybe they're being a wee bit complacent about the dangers of the city, though XD

I have to say, one of my favourite things about writing Rebecca's POV was the fact that, despite that she's such a carnal, man-hungry person, she totally doesn't fancy Mustang now she actually has to work for him.

There's going to be a little more background on how the coup ended up with two factions rather than Mustang in power right away. And yeah, I'll be explaining where Olivia Armstrong has got to in all this.

Yes, I'm reading it again and looking forward to more! havocmangawip August 28 2009, 06:01:56 UTC
Seconding everything that Sara Rojo said!

I very much love the amalgamation of countries and cultures you have given Central and it COMPLETELY works. (Some parts of Central look a lot like parts of Madrid, Sevilla and Toledo.) That and in the anime, especially FMA:B I get the feeling it is quite a patchwork quilt of architecture/culture... etc etc ad infinitum.

Funnily enough I was in Spain on holiday this summer. There's a scene next chapter that's set on Carrera del Darro in Granada, at the edge of the old Muslim quarter.

And funnily enough, yesterday I walked past a 1920s mansion block in North London that looked *exactly* the way I pictured Katie and Rebecca's apartment building. It even looked like Arakawa (or her little helpers who do the backgrounds XD) had drawn it. I even had a look at the entrances how easy it would be for an intruder to walk into the building. Snort. Lucky I look like such a model citizen.

P.S. Rebecca icon! Dude!

P.P.S. (damn inability to edit comments) reading that back, I don't mean literally set on that street in Granada - no wacky parallel universe hijinks here (I think Ed's head would explode if Alfons was in the romantic mix too) - just that the place stuck in my mind and so I transposed it to Central to use it as a setting.
