I'm not sure how many people on my flist actually watch anime, but I enjoyed this one far too much not to try to share the love. So, I present to you... KYOU KARA MAOU. \:0/

CLICK TO SEE FULL IMAGE. :D

SUMMARY (taken from tv.com): Yuuri Shibuya thought he was just another ordinary Japanese student, but getting flushed down a toilet into another dimension has a way of changing how one thinks. Black hair and black eyes identify him as the Maou, the next demon king of Shin Makoku, kingdom of the Mazoku, the demon race. And it's no picnic to go from thinking you're human to finding out you're the head of a kingdom almost at war with humans, either.

Kind, compassionate, and filled with a solid conviction to do what's right, Yuuri is like no other Maou before him. He is convinced that there's always a peaceful way to solve every problem. "I won't resort to war! When I became the Maou, that's what I decided!"

With Conrad, Wolfram, his Maou spirit, and all his other loyal supporters to help him, Yuuri just may succeed at changing the world for the better.

LENGTH: 78 25-minute episodes

GENRE: fantasy, comedy, slightly kinda boylove-ish

CHARACTERS: (just some of the main characters; not nearly all of them, though D:)

Shibuya Yuuri is a relatively normal, baseball-loving 15-year-old student... if you don't count the fact that he's the king of a race of demons in a completely different world. An extremely righteous boy, Yuuri decides that he will stop the impending war between the humans and Mazoku and usher in an era of peace.
Conrad Weller is the half-human second son of the previous Maou, and the best swordsman in the kingdom of Shin Makoku. He was given the task of entrusting the soul of the future Maou (a.k.a. Yuuri) to a good family on Earth. Being the person who gave Yuuri his name, he takes the role of a bodyguard of sorts to Yuuri, vowing to protect him even if it costs him his life.
Wolfram von Bielefeld, the youngest son of the previous Maou, is a proud, hot-headed young man. Because of his hate for humans, he often hides any brotherly affections for Conrad. Wolfram is enraged after accidently getting engaged to Yuuri, but he grows to love the other boy and follows him nearly everywhere to fulfill his "duty as Yuuri's fiancé" to protect him.
Gwendal von Walde is the oldest son of the former Maou, and is the commander of the demon army. Though he seems like a real hard-ass, it's no secret that Gwendal knits in his spare time and loves cute things.
Günter von Christ is the advisor of the Maou. Though skilled in swordsmanship, he spends most of his time taking care of Yuuri's duties as Maou and teaching Yuuri about Shin Makoku.
Murata Ken is Yuuri's classmate. Though they're not really friends in the beginning of the series, they grow closer through certain events that are too spoilerish to go into.

And now I will spam with random LOL-tastic screencaps and offical art.

The uniform Maou underwear. \:D/

TWISTER REFENCES, ANYONE?

Cheri likes to squish people in her boobies.

The customs in the other world are so amusing.

I just thought that Yuuri's face in this one was great.

BONDING BY BATHING TOGETHER?

Tummy warmers.

I laughed out loud when this came up.

COSPLAAAY. It makes me think of that episode of D no Arashi where they dressed up, and Ohno was the maid, and -- *shuts up already*

That statue of Yuuri that Stoffel had put up was hilarious.

As was the painting.

KG THE SAND BEEEEAAR.

Wolfram has no artistic ability.

Günter's dramatic soliloquies were always so priceless.

FAGS.

Yuuri gonna get ass-raped. \:D/

What the hell is this, SN!T&T? D:

The bear bees were so cute.

Morgif, the demon sword, is one of the funniest things in the ENTIRE SERIES. I love him.

Did I mention there are DRAGONS? Yes, that's Yuuri it's chomping on.

BABY DRAGONS, TOO.

Wolfram's accusations of Yuuri cheating are so great.

As is his nightgown.

LOL.

I love that guy.

T-ZOU. The best sheep ever.

Wolfram talking about their matching hats. Was Gwendal the one who knitted them? I can't remember.

More shiny heads.

Yuuri's mom dressed him like a girl when he was little. I'm surprised he's not more mentally damaged than he is, really.

WHY HELLO THERE, MOSES. Or is that Yuuri?

I just thought that dancing guy was hilarious-looking.

I don't even know.

BANANA BOATS...

... ELEPHANT HATS...

... AND VOLANIC ERUPTIONS. Is there anything this show doesn't have?

I absolutely love Murata, even though there were those times when I wanted to strangle him for being so tight-lipped.

Wolfram being an extremely creepy and possessive fiancé.

Okay, I'm still wondering where the cowboys came from.

AND SO YUURI NUZZLED THEM.

TITANIC REFENCES, ANYONEEEE?

Perhaps the gayest pirate I've ever seen.

I love the way Yuuri doesn't look the least bit thrilled.

BASEBALL.

Once again, Wolfram's nightgown. Did I mention that he and Yuuri share a bed? :0

Gwendal/Yuuri bonding. ♥

Okay, I don't even know that the fuck it is, but it weirded me out too much not to include it. \:D/

What the hell.

THE ROYAL WEDDING, HMMM?

I figured this would be a good note to end the picspam on.

I'm going to try to keep this really short because if I don't, I'll end up babbling on for ages. SO.

First of all, this anime achieves an amazingly perfect balance between humor and drama, something that's not exactly easy to do right. I can't recall any moments where a funny remark just seemed awkward or out of place. Also, the pacing of the plot was very good. It starts off very light-hearted before heading towards the main plot. Like, I was laughing at their antics and then suddently realized that wow, a real, solid plot developed somewhere along the way. The series hardly lagged at all, and I always found it hard not to start the next episode when I watched until bedtime. It's very easy to get completely absorbed in it, especially as the plot gets more complicated. There are also those really touching moments where Yuuri is successful that made me wibble, but I'm a bit of a sap. D:

The characters are what make this anime. They're all so lovable, each with a different personality and background that are developed nicely throughout the series. It's nice to see really dynamic characters that grow and change from episode to episode. Not to mention, the characters designs are appealing to the eye.

Animation-wise, KKM is pretty good for a 78-episode series. It's decent enough that I didn't go "D:!!!" at any point like I did with, say, Prince of Tennis, but it's definitely no Cowboy Bebop. The music is okay, as far as I can remember... which isn't much. It did a decent job of fitting the mood.

What else... oh, yeah. I'm still wondering why everyone looked almost exactly like their ancestors and even had the exact same voices. What. I know you wanna show that they're related, but you'd think genes would mix a little over, oh, FOUR THOUSAND YEARS. D: I think that was the only thing that bothered me.

And of course, I wouldn't pimp this without a link to the series. You can download it here, all 78 episodes, subbed, on MU. If an episode link doesn't work, I'll be glad to upload or whatever.

Aaand I'm done. \:D/ Thoughts? Questions? Comments?
