Ever After
An epilogue that's not really an epilogue, but kinda is? I still consider the previous chapter the final chapter, so this is really just a bonus.

The Show Must Go On
First off, I have been working on the next chapter concurrently with the "Ever After" bonus, so hopefully I'll be in position to post a chapter next month. Now onto the reviews!
Becoming royalty - where I live, if the next in line with royalty is a woman, and she marries one of the "common folk", her husband will never receive the title of "King", since this would mean that he would have more power than royalty. So her husband would remain prince even after marriage and they take over after the previous monarch.
That's a valid point. In canon, Alexandria seems to lean towards being a matriarchal society - Queen Brahne (and then Garnet) both take the position of ruler without a king. The army appears to be all female. And as you've pointed out in many modern monarchies a commoner that marries into royalty is not granted the same level of titles... one would become a duke or duchess, then prince or princess consort. So it wouldn't have been farfetched if I’d gone with 1) a king being unneeded in this situation and / or 2) Zidane being ineligible for the position upon marriage, with perhaps prince consort being the best title he could achieve. And I really did strongly consider having him become prince consort instead, but… I ended up going with a more simplistic fairy tale / fantasy approach, as this is a fantasy story, and in fairy tales it seems the norm that the hero who rescues and marries the princess becomes king. That’s the romanticized notion that Zidane has been clinging to this whole time, so I wanted to make his wish come true, even if it’s not turning out quite as he’d envisioned.
Dwarves - I absolutely adore your portrayal of the drawves btw!
I wanted the Dwarves to have some personality, especially since they're the only people Kuja gets to talk to. The Dwarves in canon do have some fun little quirks (I love their naming convention for last names) so I wanted to keep a bit of that whimsy going, even in a relatively serious scene.
Zidane not suited to being a king - To me, Zidane should be free and fun-loving. Being royal means everybody will look to you. No how good-heart he is, I think Zidane that type of hero that take any sort of leadership if there is some dire crisis. Stuffy royal stuff isn't his thing.
Yeah, Zidane isn't suited to being the "sit down and have a formal meal with other leaders while discussing politics" type. He was decent enough at leading on the field (well... actually he never really had a plan. Maybe he'd be bad at that too, now that I think about it... Hell, Eiko was better at planning). Well, maybe he'd be the type of king I'd consider following onto a battlefield, but definitely not the one I'd want making laws or passing judgment!
Zidane wanting to feel needed - I also like that it's possible that some of Kuja's attraction for Zidane might simply be that Kuja needs him in a way that Dagger no longer does.
Zidane really strikes me as the type of guy who always wants to be helpful - I think his whole wanting to be the hero, the knight that saves the princess, the king… I think that’s genuine.
