2007

It's that time of year again... reviewing my success (or failure) with the '06 resolutions and then putting down the new ones for 07.

New Years Resolutions of 2006-- let's see how I did:
1. Stick it to The Man
I did. I can't write down a few of the things I did... but I also did some major rule stretching etc. with the insurance companies trying to take MS&P patients for a ride.

2. Next time a cute French college student asks me to go to London with him, for a drink... I'll go.
There's still time for this one.

3. Remember the people who matter, and forget the ones who don't
I actually had to really put this one into action. Sometimes people turn on you and I simply cannot deal with that. Overall, I think that keeping this in mind gave me a stressful, but healthier year.

4. Rock Rose Arena so hard it hurts
Well, it didn't rock quite as hard as I would have liked. BUT- my head did not explode, Dave told me I did a good job, and the show itself was good.

5. Be less afraid. Spit in the face of fear more often.
I was probably most successful with this one. I petted so many dogs this year! I even had TWO on my lap at the same time! Not to mention that I also got my ears pierced. Those were two major fears (silly as it is) that I somehow managed to conquer.

6. Go to more concerts
I attended a grand total of 5 concerts in 06: OAR, Springsteen, The Who, BNL, and Dylan. This of course does not include any concert that I had to work. So- that's 5X the amount of shows I saw in 06. Well played.

7. Drink more water
Failed. I even got sick because of not drinking enough water.

Now, let's see what needs work in 07:

NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS FOR 2007:

1. Stay Healthy
I was in the hospital 3 times this year, and at the doctor's office (not working) more times than I care to count. Strep throat, irregular blood pressure, fevers over 102... this is not OK. Drink more water, get more Vitamin C, and use more Purell at work.

2. More Mary / Jess Time
I miss my best girl friend. We made the same resolution. Just because we're ridiculously busy and no longer living together... we need to make time. If I neglect our relationship, she may stick me in an orange bridesmaid dress. That is not good.

3. Learn to Say "NO!"
I have a major problem with compulsively trying to please people.
"Sure I'll drive 7 hours to Peoria-- I don't mind that it's MY car."
"You really think that cutting 6 inches off my hair would look good? Oh, ok sure."
"Of course I can come get you from the bar! No, I wasn't sleeping. It's only 2:30! The night is young."
This needs to stop.

4. Be More Fashionable
In a few short months I will be a college graduate. I don't think I can wear cable-knit sweaters and Birkenstocks to most real world jobs. Might as well get used to it now. This really hit me when I went shopping with Miranda. I had no idea how bad I was at dressing myself.

5. Throw Things Out
I think I may be a borderline hoarder. I saw a thing on MSNBC about it. I have the hardest time getting rid of the silliest stuff. Old class folders, cardboard boxes, CD cases that have been empty for years, owner's manual for the toaster, clothes I'll never wear, flash cards from final exams I took 3 semesters ago. These things are cluttering my life, and they need to go.
