Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that I am a Hokie, but at the same time I'm not overly offended when others do. Because although there may be better ways to show their support, many of them are sincere in their meaning.

I'm attempting to think of a proper way to phrase this but rather little is coming to me. I think what bothers me most about this post is not what you are saying so much as the anger/force you seem to be saying it with. Instead of suggesting a more positive approach you appear, to me at least, to be condemning those who have taken this particular saying to heart.

It is, for all purposes and most intent, a saying. A poorly worded one, granted, but to me your primary concern seems to be the fact that little else of any true value is being done. If people were going out of their way to donate, to help those who had been directly affected and still used the phrase as a sign of mutual support for a tragic incident without attempting to appear victims themselves, would you still have such contempt for it?

Or rather, are you merely upset at the lack of real support shown by some individuals and have latched onto the phrase as a symbol of their hypocrisy?
