I exist

It's crunch time for me as with every other person who is working on their thesis ( they call mine a portfolio but whatever). I'm almost done with my student teaching and have to set up my interviews along with about a million other things (I exaggerate but it feels like that).

Brian finished his graduate thesis which means that we'll be graduating at the same time so hopefully this summer will be fun. I've been hit with major wanderlust lately (blame it on my Viking roots). I'm planning trips to Chincoteague (yeah, just like "Misty of Chincoteague") and Shenandoah. Then perhaps longer trips to Pine Lofts or family in Colorado. I'm actually going to enjoy my summer for once and travel as best I can with the few pennies I've saved (if gas prices don't deplete them entirely).

This weekend Brian and I went to Catoctin Nat'l Park and enjoyed Cunningham Falls. He forgot his camera so no pics as of yet. I want to go back and explore more of the park. I saw two downy woodpeckers and an indigo bunting...it was a bird watcher's paradise. It's recharging to get the sun on my face and be able to breathe. I would have been happier with fewer people around a would Brian, but we're pretty good at blocking most of them out.

We'd tried to go to the National Cherry Blossom Festival in DC which was a nice romantic idea in theory but in reality involved being butt to butt with far too many tourists. Its lovely to be able to share experiences like hiking and just plain exploring the area. Old town Alexandria and the port was fun to investigate even when we got soaked trying to find his firebird. We ate fish and chips while drying off and reminisced about Don's Dock in Des Plaines.

Good luck to all the almost-grads. We'll finish all the last minute work and have our degrees in no time...hopefully. I'll be out in Chi-town some time before the 4th of July to see my new baby second cousin and visit family. As always, there's an open invitation out to DC for all the Arl. Hts. girls. Keep me posted about summer plans...it's been too long since I've seen you guys.
