So, the premise is that all the players in the RPG are playing characters from various fandoms (or real people who are not themselves), and the characters are all participating in fandom?

How does the fandom part work? I get that the player will be pretending to be character-as-author/artist/etc., but do, say, all the Harry Potter characters create only Harry Potter fanwork, or is the idea to end up with Draco Malfoy writing Prince of Tennis fanfiction, etc.?

Yes, you have it right.

As far as fanwork goes, each character can write what they want. There's no solid rules on that. If the Draco Malfoy character only wishes to write HP fic, that is their choice. I'm kind of hoping for insane cross-overs myself. It's not to prove one fandom better than another fandom that we're going for -- it's each person for himself/herself, and them writing/doing whatever they think will make THEM better in their peers' eyes. Appealling to the masses would be good, and I do think it will be hard if you only stick to one fandom.

Follow up question not from the OP!

In terms of having different 'fandoms' being able to talk to each other, do we treat them as just another fanartist/fanwriter/etc. that we meet online, or can you go, "Hey! You Harry Potter kid! Aren't you a book?!" sort of thing?

I'm still not quite getting the fandom thing. >: Is it just like a normal RPG, where your character resides in Tokyo and plays tennis and interacts with others, for example, but you just also go online to talk to people and do fannish things to become a BNF? Are you allowed to write about your life, then? Or what?

You can if you wish! :D

There are no rules about how to treat this. If you want to, play it like you're going online. Play it however you want. Sticking to canon isn't required, nor is any sort of logic.

You can write about whatever you want to. :D
