Idea came to me yesterday, got written today. New 2000-word short story. It amuses me. I won't claim it's a completely original take on the tired old concept at its core -- given the number of stories and novels out there, I'll never assume I'm the only one who's thought something up -- but I think it's off the beaten path. It makes me happy.
No, I'm not going to say what it is. If this story sells, then I want people to come to it with fresh eyes, not knowing where it's going.
I will give the beginning, though.
The application form is seventy-two pages long, and they require nine copies. These people want to know everything. They also want to make sure you're serious about applying.
Who would have thought I could make a short story out of an application process?
