I'm not supposed to arrive at work until 9.30 today, so there is time for a bit of a rant/ramble in LJ :)
I always gets dismayed when I listen to any politician or union leader or anyone like that talking on the radio, and especially when they are talking about education. Here is a few random jottings from me on education.

I hated school but I did well at it. I do believe that good spelling matters, I do judge people on bad spelling, that's just me. Likewise I think foreign languages do help though not necessarily in academic ways. I couldn't have got through my last week in France without knowing some French and would have been ripped off left right and centre had I not been able to speak and understand it.

Don't agree about health and safety aspects of science, would be horrified if Zoe came home with clothes burned due to science experiment and would be seriously considering action against the school in failure to protect children. Sorry, I feel there's no need to expose kids to unnecessary risk when there's safer ways of getting the learning outcome.

Completely agree with bullying and I know most schools have stringent procedures to deal with bullying. And well overdue too, it was swept under the carpet in our day making school life thoroughly miserable.

Answer me this - have you ever met anyone who admits to having bullied someone? Funny how nobody ever does yet there's plenty who do the bullying!
