This was an awesome look at Madeline and her ways of dealing with Michael's father - I loved how you get the feeling that even when things are bad, she's still got her reasons for sticking with him and that they're not bad reasons. (Plus, on the show, it's usually Michael's thoughts and views we get, so this made a wonderful change.)

Frank might have been a jerk, but michael is always a jerk. he probably gave his parents a hard time all of the time given his adult relationship with his mom. i like "brandishing a belt." Michael was probably spanked a lot more than punched. His mom even hinted abut his past when she told him "you might be too old to spank..." Maddie probably whooped his butt with a belt while smoking her cigarette!
