I think I could answer 90% of those points with a YES!
I found your Flickr photos today when I was searching for some info about Dalton Middle School, and was thrown into reminising mode.
I followed my dad around between the UK and Germany until I left home for college in 1984 when I was 19. In Germany we lived in Rheindahlen, Bielefeld, Duisberg and finally Munster. I cant remember the names of the Schools I went to apart from Dalton Middle School from 1977 to 1979 and Windsor Boys School (Hamm) from 1979 to 1980. Dalton was a brilliant school. I thought it was great how the school was made up of hexagons, and that the classrooms were arranged around communal areas, just split by curtains. I remember the discos we had in the Art room every so often. I also remember the week long school trips to Bad-Nassau, where we got to stay away from home.
I was living in Duisberg by the time I went to Dalton, but before this in the early to mid 70's I lived in Rheindahlen. I can remember great times at the Blue Pool, eating Pommefrites and splashing around. I learned to swim in that pool. It seems such a long time ago now, but I guess it is!!!! I remember going to Sunday School in the Toc-H (or was it YMCA) opposite the big Naafi. There was a cafe there, where I remember having those german crusty rolls with a dent in the top, with grated cheese and Branston pickle. Funny how you remember those things. I also remember the big tent that was put up outside the back of the Naafi at christmas time for the toy fayre.
Between living in Duisberg and Munster, my Dad was posted to the TA centre in Cupar as the regular soldier there, so I had my first taste of Fife from 1980 to 1983. We then went back to live in Munster. I had left school by then, because I had done my Highers, and it would have been hard for me to do A levels. So I went to work on the YTS scheme in the BMH Munster pharmacy. That was great fun, but only for a year. So after that I returned to Kirkcaldy to be a student. In the mean time my Dad had his last posting to the Dunfermline TA Centre, and then on to being the civilian manager of the Glenrothes TA Centre. My mum and dad moved to Glenrothes, where I lived with them until I got married in 1987. I still however live in Glenrothes. So when I saw you are from Cowdenbeath I was amazed. Who would imagine two ex-Dalton kids would be living in Fife!
Its great to see your Blog, and would love to reminise with you longer, even if our times in Germany was seperated by a number of years. My email addy is gareth@cluny.plus.com.
