Just got up after a 12-hour return trip and read through all my missed e-mails during my stint at Dragon*Con 2003. Wow! What a rush! I just can't say how much fun my first trip to this amazing show was! Still, there were ups and a few downs, but many, many more of the former.
Here are my top 5 best moments from the weekend at Dragon*Con:
5) Arriving after an 11-hour drive with
mostlynormal1 and
trollprincess in tow at the Hyatt in downtown Hotlanta. The first impression was great - hundreds of kindred spirits parading around in full regalia, or strolling around gawking at same. The strong feeling of comeraderie was awesome, and the never-ending buzz of conversation in the hotel lobby was simply amazing! 24/7, indeed!
4) Joining
mostlynormal1,
trollprincess and about 250 other Buffy diehards as "Once More, With Feeling" was played to a packed house in "Rocky Horror" fashion. I never realized how liberating singing at the top of one's lungs along with that many people could be! The "actors" were so-so, but the spirit of the crowd made the night one to remember. "...And you can sing along...."
3) Recognizing that James Marsters is a pretty normal guy surrounded by uptight, self-important nobodies. During one of his panels, after the audience was practically threatened with bodily harm by one of the aforementioned morons for any attempt at using flash photography, our fave Buffy/Angel heartthrob proceeded to tell the hoards of fans to ignore the comment. Flashbulb city! Dear James, you're witty, you're intellectually surprising, and you're sooooo damned hot!
2) Playing a new party game, "Are You a Werewolf?" with
mostlynormal1,
tree220, and 40 or 50 other conventioneers 'til the wee hours of the morning. A word of advice to those who take on the challenge of this game: do nothing to stand out in a crowd, or you're dead meat - "Lynch the red shirt! Lynch the red shirt!"
And finally:
1) Listening to major hottie David Franklin, BKA Lieutenant Braca in Farscape and Brutus in Xena, explaining in a panel how NOT to put on a pair of pants on stage...let's just say that although everyone was laughing hysterically, the men in the crowd (including yours truly) cringed inwardly a bit. Dave was just so approachable and huggable,
mostlynormal1 and I were fighting over who had dibs on inviting him home to stay!
