TGIF. Can I get an "Amen" over here? Today was hellacious, but next week will be even worse--mainly because I didn't make it hellacious enough for myself this week. *sigh

Apology, and Still the Question...crazyspintoOctober 27 2006, 14:11:11 UTC
I'm sorry everybody! When I read the post, I found it very interesting and broad ranging, covering alot of topics, mostly music, of course, and alluding to it being some kind of religious event which I don't know about, don't have the 1st clue, really. It seemed that the first commenter was somehow chastising (sp?) him for not writing more about the religious aspect of that experience.
I've noticed that Brett doesn't tend to lay his soul bare on religious topics, not here at least, although he does mention his father's sermons and such so we tangentally understand that is part of the mix, for him. He does (as he said) tend to focus on the music, friendships, etc. and that's why I read what he writes, anyway. He writes *so well* about music (and very few people do, actually) that I would like to keep reading his music based lj for a long time!
When I said "Please don't change a thing" I guess I was voting that perhaps hopefully he won't change his focus & write *only* about religion? But religion is important to alot of people, and as it relates to his experience, would be an interesting addition to his writing. If he chose to do so, of course.
I really was confused, & frustrated and still am, I'm still very confused, and wanting to understand: What is a "Feast"? Why is it important? What is your belief? Was Brett somehow not honoring something super important when he neglected or chose not to write about it?
Help me out here, please. I really do want to understand.

I suppose I could let Brett answer for himself, and he can feel free to delete/add onto my comment on what this "feast" is. But here goes...
The "feast" ("feast of tabernacles") is a special gathering in our religion where, for one week, we leave our homes, live in "temporary dwellings" (often hotels) and go to church every day. There are many different "feast sites" throughout the world, where people of our religion gather to do this. It's a special time that symbolizes the reign of Jesus upon His return. This is obviously a very general definition/explanation, and like I said, others can feel free to add on as they see fit.
To be clear; I wasn't implying that he should talk more about religion, or solely about religion. Certainly, as religious as I am, and as important to me as it all is, it's not a huge focus of my LJ either; what Sonya was getting at is that it seems odd that he would only mention the music aspect of the feast when it symbolizes so much more. She wasn't (and I wasn't) saying that he needed to give indept analyses of sermons given, but that such a special event requires more recognition, even if I am aware that this is a music blog (honestly, I didn't think twice about his lack of other comments on the matter, because I expected as such, but once Sonya mentioned it...)
blah I'm rambling. I'm not trying to battle anyone... simply trying to clarify.
On that note, Brett, I have got you a sort of "peace offering"--you'll get whenever I see you next. I just saw something at the grocery store the other day that you might get a kick out of.

I know it's not needed--I bought it yesterday before all of this anyway, but if I can add an excuse for getting it other than a random spur of the moment thing where I saw something you'd enjoy.... well, actually, that's probably a better circumstance, anyway.

Oh, it's like Sukkot? I totally wouldn't have guessed that! Very different observance in Judaism. I was raised Catholic and we didn't do anything like that either. Very interesting. Thanks for clarifying!

Wow. I don't look at this post for a bit and look what happened. I understand and accept that this is now a music blog. However, I very rarely see or talk to Brett, so this transforming into a music-only blog = I know nothing of what's going on with him. I didn't make a big deal about it earlier, but it bothered me I guess that he didn't elaborate on the non-music aspects of the Feast at first, and not for entirely religious reasons. I just checked my LJ and I wrote 3 sentences on the Feast this year, so maybe I'm a hypocrite, but I've attended the Feast in the Dells for the past 12 or so years. Brett went to Colorado this year and that seemed kind of exciting because it's practically a new set of people and activities, and I wanted to know more about it. I asked more out of curiosity than for any religious reason, though religion is very important to me.
The Izi'iatzii'ts language is a very complex one. As far as I'm aware, Brett, Debbie and myself are the only people who understand it, though I've attempted to explain it to a few others before.
And Brett: I'm done. I won't *ever* suggest that you write about more than music in here again. However, I won't cease to leave random comments, because it provides me amusement and I am a very bored person.
