as promised im now devoting an entry to my oh-so-exciting job. i work at the consular section of the American Embassy. its where they issue visas to ppl who want to visit the US. i work from 7:30-5 mon thru thrs and 730-1230 on friday. its a loooooong day. im thinking its a tad too long so i might get them to cut my hours so i can leave at like 3 or something. ive basically been doing the secretary work. i file things, stuff envelopes, enter data and pictures into the computer, stamp files, etc. fascinating stuff huh? i also get a lot of crazy phone calls. the other day i got one from this guy who needed someone to petition for him to go to the US (everyone has to have a petitioner from the US to get a visa) and he started asking me if id petition for him. yeh sure buddy, ive never met you and im going to try and convince ppl to let you into my country, right. everyone also seems to think that if they tell me their sob story i can get them an early interview or something. sorry guys, im not that important. i cant for the life of me understand many of these ppl on the phone, im so bad with accents. i just got a new task because someones going on vacation. i get to print visas. its apparently an important job (meaning if i screw up im in big trouble). i also have to pass the visas out, and thank goodness im behind glass in a little booth cause its a madhouse where the ppl pick up their visas. ppl here a really pushy. so thats my job. not too thrilling but i make more than i did at dunkin donuts and the ppl are nice. well now i must get back to work. if theres anyone else who wants a postcard let me know.
