Business & Photography:
Like I said there's a change in focus.
I just submitted my name as a freelance photographer to a large site.
They will contact me for more info.
Ok, so just because you took a few photo's , let's not let it go to your head.
So I decided to compare myself to another freelancer:
Here we go:
Jeff Vinnick is a Vancouver, Canada based professional photographer with more than 20 years experience specializing in sports, editorial, corporate and portrait photography.
With an award winning background as a photojournalist, Jeff has the ability to produce strong imagery for his client's needs, and if necessary, transmit those images worldwide from any location on deadline.
Jeff uses the latest equipment in both film and digital photography for 35mm and medium formats. Jeff is highly skilled in a studio environment and has a fully equipped portable studio for assignments demanding on-site photography.
Jeff's clients repeatedly hire him for his hard work ethic and professionalism, his ability to produce excellent photography efficiently and for his ease to work with.
Comparison:
For example: If I was the person doing the hiring:
Jeff .vs. Barrie
1) Hmm, 1 year experience .vs. 20 years.
He wins. I have 1 year intense training though in fashion photography.
Maybe I can offer my services as fashion specialist ?
I did black and white development at age 15 in my basement.
I can do beginner type portrait photography though.
Editorial and corporate. Hmm, no.
2) No real photojournalist experience. My English writing skills are sub-zero.
I've done street photography.
Montreal jazz festival.Does that count ?
3) No award winning background. :(
Ok, so I'll take him on though in being able to transmit pictures worldwide.
In fact I should be able take him hands down on the technology side...
4) "Jeff uses the latest equipment in both film and digital photography"
For what its worth , "ditto". I have all the major professional {red-liner} lenses and a Mark II.
No film. {thank-god} ;)
5) "Jeff is highly skilled in a studio environment and has a fully equipped portable studio for assignments demanding on-site photography. "
Ok, I can do studio. Highly skilled, not really. Still working on that.
Portable studio ? Hmm, shit... Can a Bowens Strobe work with some sort of battery pack ??
6) Ease to work with ? Hmm, who knows.
Well, that's the reality check.
That's my on-line homework.
At least if they call me back I'll have an idea what to say and can tell them what I can do.
When I tell them I have a studio , do I have to mention its a "home" studio ?
My web site looks professional , might be a bit too much girlie content. (^$&)
I also need to comment on the photo's in there to explain the circumstances of certain photo's.
Maybe I should re-orient as a fashion freelance type photographer rather than a studio photographer ?
Hmm, not sure.
Nothing is sure actually.
But I'm ready for the call.
Update:
1-I'm bilingual. Add a plus for netimages.
2-I see most of their photographers have 15+ years experience. Subtract one or maybe two for me. I'm old , does that count ?
